What is IMV?

CarGurus Instant Market Value (IMV) is an estimated fair retail price for a vehicle, based on a detailed analysis of comparable current and previous vehicle listings in your market.

We calculate and regularly update our IMV using a complex algorithm that takes into account millions of data points, including the make, model, trim level, year, mileage, optional features and vehicle history.

Our IMV is intended to provide guidance on pricing, but is not an official valuation or guarantee.

What's in our Deal Ratings?

To calculate our Deal Ratings, we compare a vehicle's asking price with its estimated fair market value—also known as the CarGurus Instant Market Value—and take the dealer's reputation into account.

Based on this calculation, we assign a deal rating: Great, Good, Fair, High or Overpriced. We always show what we believe are the best deals first, based on our algorithm—not on how much a dealer pays us.
